Testimonial from a new member.

“I joined LAC seven months ago and am so pleased that I did. I came from a background in sculpting, with clay modelling and also wood carving, so my experience working in 2 dimensional spaces was very limited. Likewise I didn’t know much about paint. So I was a bit nervous; performance anxiety I guess! I really should never have worried. LAC is a pleasure to belong to, because members are, as a group, dedicated to learning and improving their art. They are understanding and supportive of each other, regardless of style differences or the medium used.

As a group we get lots of opportunity with monthly workshops given by outstanding artists, and also by joining a weekly card painting group which provides the public with very affordable and original small art works. There is a lot of information sharing and we learn by doing. Through these opportunities, we also find out about the best materials to use and hear how others solved their problems. One good thing is we learn that making mistakes is not the end of everything! And actually there are plenty of ways to fix an error!

For my own part, I have found that I am getting the hang of perspective. I have managed to try most mediums (not yet oils) and am surprised to find I am very comfortable with pastels and also watercolor. I have, since joining LAC, become quite comfortable working on paper and have learnt to look and really see what I wish to focus on. Even so, I know I still have a lot to learn, and that’s OK and something to look forward to.”
